What a Wonderful Father
In the last couple of days, there have been a lot of quotes by Tim Keller – who made it home to heaven this week – going around in cyberspace. I wanted to share my favorite as well. It speaks volumes about what a wonderful Father we have in heaven welcoming all who believe in Jesus to him. We don’t need to wait until we see him face to face. God is waiting for us to show up in his presence every single day already while we are here on Earth.
Okay, you say. What is my favorite quote by Tim Keller? Here it is: “The only person who dares wake up a king at 3:00 a.m. for a glass of water is a child. We have that kind of access.” We have that kind of access and we have that kind of father. How blessed we are!
Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.19 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. (Eph. 2:18-20, NLT)
What a wonderful Father
Why don’t we then use that access more? Why do we think we need to get our act together before we can approach the King of Kings? Especially when he is always waiting for us his arms wide open. God wants to hear from you. The good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. So let’s learn to go to him with everything. And when we do this, we learn what real intimacy with God is. What it means to be loved, seen, and appreciated.
What a wonderful father we have. How blessed it is to be his child and have 24/7 access to him. Let’s not try to be something or someone else when in his presence. Instead, let’s be who we are. God does not love who we pretend to be. He loves who we are and who he created us to be. Let’s revel in this love and let’s use this access to the King of Kings. Let’s make our path to our heavenly Father well used. And we will be blessed beyond measure.
Gracious God,
You are such a wonderful Father to us.
Thank you for always welcoming us into your presence.
Help us to use continually this access that Jesus has provided us.
Show us what real intimacy with looks like.
Thank you for loving us as we are.
Bless us according to your will for us.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
P.S.
Isn’t it amazing that God Almighty wants us to bother him with the smallest things and come to him when we are at the end of our rope? He wants us, not some version of us that is pretentious and inauthentic. What a wonderful Father we have! Let’s give thanks and praise to him and keep using the access Jesus has provided us!
