The Mind of Christ

The Mind of Christ

The mind of Christ

Epiphany is one of my favorite holy days. The pressure of Christmas celebrations is over, now it is time to join the wise men worshiping Jesus and bringing him the best we have to offer. This calls for some reflection and self-evaluation, don’t you think? It is also great time to plan how we want to spend this new year. How about doing it with the mind of Christ?

Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], 16 making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil. (Eph. 5:15-16, AMP,*)

We all want – at least, in theory – to make the very most of our time here on earth. But so often we get distracted and lose our way. We should choose God’s way anyway so losing our way gives us a fresh start we need to truly make the most of this year. The Bible guides us this way:

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. (Phil. 2:5, NLT,*)

We have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes]. (1 Cor. 2:16b, AMP,*)

God has not left us to wander around alone and guessing which way to go. The Holy Spirit is our guide and councelor. And he provides us the mind of Christ to be guided by his thoughts and purposes. This excites me. It gives me hope. It gives me a way forward that is not based on trial and error, not even on educated guesses but on the mind of Christ.

The mind of Christ

How can we then have the mind of Christ? It is God’s gift for us, all the believers can have the mind of Christ, we just need to put it in use. When we live prayerfully, asking God whenever we need guidance “is this your best for me?”, The Holy Spirit will open our eyes to see the matter with the mind of Christ. Then we see how things are for real, not just how they look like.

When we look at the year ahead with the mind of Christ, we are able to focus on things that have eternal value. God’s ways are different than ours, we need the mind of Christ to show us what’s what. Otherwise it is way too easy to get distracted with this maniac world.

But aren’t we blessed that God provides us all we need to live victoriously? Jesus wants to be our Lord and Savior but also our guide and our role model. He left us the Holy Spirit to empower and inform us. So we are more than welcome to ask for help. Actually, we will bring God great pleasure when we walk closely to him and ask for his input. That is the only way to make the very most of our lives. Because of Christ it is ours for the asking.

Dear God,
Thank you for being such an indrebile Father
and providing everything we need on our way to you.
We want to live with the mind of Christ,
help us to do so.
Bolden us to ask for help
and then empower us to act according to your guidance.
Show us how to make the very most of our lives
by finding our identity and purpose in Christ.
Help us to see what needs to go and what needs to increase in our lives
so we can serve you with the mind of Christ.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen

Q4U: Do you want to have the mind of Christ? Why/why not?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you see Jesus with everything you’ve got!
