Live with Great Expectations
How on earth do I think we could still live with great expectations when the world is distressed for so many reasons? That is a million-dollar question, don’t you think? How can we live hope-filled lives when life as we know seems to be just a memory? Let’s find out the answer. Peter guides us this way:
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5, NIV, emphasis added,*)
Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has given us new birth into a living hope. As children of God, we are meant to continually live in hope in every situation. Sure, we can’t find hope within ourselves but we have plenty in Jesus. So let’s not forget that.
Let’s cling to this hope with everything we’ve got. Let’s remind ourselves of it, daily. We need to start believing anew every morning. Because during the night we experience what I call spiritual amnesia and that’s why we need to keep on reminding ourselves of our treasure in Jesus.
Live with great expectations
Through Jesus, we have eternal hope and priceless inheritance. Let’s not live without us enjoying it and living it out in every situation. That is the only way we can live with great expectations. No one but God can deliver what we need (salvation, grace, hope upon hope).
Through our faith, God is protecting us and directing us all the days of our lives. Even when it does not feel like it. That’s why we need to keep on clinging to Jesus and he hears our cries and will act accordingly.
Faith is a gift of God. It’s meant to be used and practiced, especially in hard times when it does not look like there is any hope left. But for Christians, the best times are ahead. Let’s not forget that, let’s always live with great expectations. Because our God is an awesome God.
Gracious God,
Thank you for giving us new birth into a living and lasting hope.
We truly need it and we can’t do it on our own.
Surround us with your healing, uplifting, and encouraging grace.
You know our struggles, help us.
Bless us as only you can.
Keep us close to your heart.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Q4U: Are you living with great expectations? If not, you’re living under your privileges as a child of God.
