Only the Fullness of God Satisfies

Only the Fullness of God Satisfies

Only the fullness of God satisfies

Fullness is something we crave for, right? We yearn for it. Yet when we receive it, most often than not, we are not satisfied. We’re either too full or we crave now for something else. How come fullness is so elusive? Maybe because we look for the wrong kind of fullness. The only kind of fullness that can satisfy us is the fullness of God.

Being too full of food or candy is not pleasant no matter how good the food or candy looked before we consumed it. The same goes for success, money, fame, drugs, popularity. There’s a hole inside of us that we can’t fill with anything but God. The fullness of God is the only thing that brings blessings and the lasting feeling of being fulfilled.

I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Eph. 3: 18-21, NRSV, emphasis added,*)

Only the fullness of God satisfies

So God wants to fill us with the fullness of Himself. How can we have it? By believing in Jesus. When Jesus takes up residence in us, we receive all that he has. His fullness takes over our emptiness, his grace take over our sin. And his wisdom takes over our foolishness. This is Jesus in action. It brings the fullness of God.

As Martin Luther has said, “He who is a Christian has Christ. He who has Christ has all things that are Christ’s, and can do all things.” We can’t produce spiritual fruit or lasting fullness. But God can fill us with all the fullness of God, with everything we need. The power at work in us is the resurrection power. It can accomplish far more than we can imagine. So let’s not hesitate anymore and welcome it into our lives.

Gracious God,
Forgive us for trying to fulfill us with anything but you.
Satisfy us with your love and grace.
Fulfill us with yourself.
Guide us on how to live out our faith in you.
Make our everyday life fulfilled and blessed.
In Jesus’ name,

Q4U: Are you fulfilled with Jesus or are you still trying to fulfill yourself with other than Jesus?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you are fulfilled with the fullness of God!
