Goodbye to the Old and Hello to the New

Goodbye to the Old and Hello to the New

Goodbye and helloAre you ready to say goodbye to the old and hello to the New Year? There’s two Bible verses to help us deal with the change. The first one is very familiar and the second one little less so. But they help us to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new into our lives.

First of all, we all mess up. No matter how hard we try we don’t quite succeed. The trick here is not to stop trying but give everything to God. He can do something good even out of our messes.

We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28, CEB)

This is also valid to the mistakes we did this year. We just need to surrender to Jesus and ask him to use everything for good. We can say goodbye to the old year without regrets when we surrender them to Jesus.

Second of all, we can greet the New Year with anticipation because we know the One who holds the future in his hands. When we live and plan prayerfully, we can trust God is guiding us. We can start the New Year with confidence because God is with us.

“Go ahead and do whatever you are thinking, because the Lord is with you.” (2 Samuel 7:3, CEB)

We don’t know what is going to happen next year. But God knows. There will be surprising moments next year and we might be confused about what to do. But God isn’t. He already has wonderful ready-made plans for us to follow.

We are not alone. God is always with us. Let’s boldly say goodbye to the old year and expectantly greet the New Year!

Gracious God,
We have messed up.
Forgive us, heal us, renew us.
And, please, use our messes for good.
Create something new in our lives in the new year.
Thank you that you are always with us.
Guide us, direct us, bless us.
Help us to say goodbye to the old
and welcome the new.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Are you ready to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you surrender everything to God and start the new year in Jesus’ name!
