When we have a thousand things to do, probably the last thing we think we should do is to sit still. But I’d say that’s exactly what needs to happen when our lives become chaotic. The only way for me to control chaos is to surrender control to my creator. When I sit still before the Lord I am reminded of what is essential in life and what isn’t. I am also reminded of the power I depend on. It’s not mine but God’s. And that has no limits. When I surrender control to God, it’s not me who is controlling chaos, it’s God.

“But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”  (2 Chronicles 20:17, NLT,*)

Controlling chaos by surrendering control to God

We need our time with God. Without it, we become stressed out because only God can restore our spirit, give us strength, courage, and energy to go on. And afterward when we get back to work, we are not dragging along because we are obligated but we are serving in love instead. It’s interesting that even just a small pause of a few minutes can have such a big difference in our lives. But when we sit still before the Lord for a few minutes, a power shift occurs. Then it’s not us but God in us. So the best way to control chaos is indeed by surrendering control to God.

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. (Exodus 14:14, NIV,*)

So. The more chaotic your life becomes, the more you need to pray. The effects of our prayer are tremendous. Invite God into your life, let him show you how to handle things. When we pray, coincidences happen and when we do not pray, coincidences do not happen. Go figure. I just love how God sorts things out for us. So surrendering control to God is the best thing you can ever do. Not just because it is the best way to control chaos in your life but because it opens up eternity with loving God for you. You will never be short-changed when you deal with God. He always gives more than you need. Just because he is that amazing.

 

Gracious God,
We thank you and we praise you for being so awesome.
Thank you for blessing us with your presence.
Draw us to you especially when our lives seem to become chaotic.
We surrender to you, Lord.
May thy will happen in and through our lives.
We don’t have answers or solutions
but you do.
Show us the way to go, Lord.
Open the right doors and create peace within us.
Calm the chaos in our lives, Lord.
Create space in us for Jesus to be born.
