God Is Not A Cosmic Bellboy
Some people wish that God were like Santa. He’d give us what we want. But the problem is: we don’t know what is best for us.
Some people do think God is like Santa. And when they don’t get what they want, they throw God over board.
But God is not like Santa. Or, like Harry Emerson Fosdick has stated, “God is not a cosmic bellboy for whom we can press a button to get things”.
But if you think a bit deeper….who would want God like Santa or a cosmic bellboy?
Thank God he is so much more than Santa or a cosmic bellboy!
Thank God he knows what’s best for us.
Thank God he is the Giver of life and more life.
Thank God he does not only save us but sustain us.
Thank God he pours our grace upon grace.
Thank God he loves us even when we ignore him.
Thank God he is faithful even when we are not.
Thank God his salvation plan is beyond our imagination.
Thank God he is God and we are not!
God is rich in mercy. He brought us to life with Christ while we were dead as a result of those things that we did wrong. He did this because of the great love that he has for us. You are saved by God’s grace! And God raised us up and seated us in the heavens with Christ Jesus. God did this to show future generations the greatness of his grace by the goodness that God has shown us in Christ Jesus. You are saved by God’s grace because of your faith. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not something you possessed. It’s not something you did that you can be proud of. (Eph. 2: 4-9, CEB, emphasis added)
Gracious God,
Forgive us for trying to reduce your power.
Forgive us for ignoring you.
Come and become real to us.
Show us your mercy, your grace, and your love.
Create something beautiful out of our lives.
May YOUR will be done,
nothing else, nothing less, nothing more.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

I came from Ann’s because I saw the title of your post and was drawn here. This was a great read. Making God in our image is such a flaw to which I probably succumb at least once every day. Praise Him for His mercy.
It was good being by here and to learn of the Common English Bible. That’s new to me.
God bless,
Dawn
Nice to meet you, Dawn. Praise Him for His mercy indeed! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Abundant blessings to you!
