United by faith with the Word of God
Are you united by faith with the Word of God? This is what I was pondering on after reading the fourth chapter of the letter to Hebrews. The writer states the message they heard did not benefit them, because it was not united with faith in God by those who heard. God’s Word needs to be merged with us so it could affect and bless us. Those who are united by faith with the Word of God are one with Jesus.
For indeed the good news came to us just as to them; but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. (Hebrews 4:2, NRSV,*)
I had never thought of this verse like this before. When we accept the Word of God, we are united with it. The more we surrender to God, the more we are united with Jesus. This connection with the Word of God is what separates from the world. The Bible is not just a historical text but the living word of the Living God and it changes us and the world.
United by faith with the Word of God
People who are united with the Word of God are God’s own people. The more united we are with the Word of God, the more easily we hear his voice. If for any reason we wander away from the Word of God, it gets more difficult to hear God’s voice. But do know Jesus will not forget you, he keeps looking for you and calling you back to him.
People who are united with the Word of God are the happiest people on earth because they have found their real identity and purpose. Then the Word of God blesses you and benefits you in every possible way, the peace of God settles in you. That’s when we can experience heaven on earth, even when it’d be outwardly impossible.
Dear God,
Thank you for your incomprehensible love,
thank you for inviting us to you,
offering us everything in Jesus.
We receive your Word in faith and
want to be truly united with it and
ask for your peace to permeate us completely.
Also, we surrender to you and accept your will for us.
Come, Lord Jesus, stay in us.
Come, Holy Spirit, renew us according to your will.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
