The Purpose of Living

The Purpose of Living

The purpose of livingHow are you living your life? Are you aware of your overall purpose here on earth? At least, I hope you know you are not an accident. There is a reason why you were born. God created you and has called you to live at this exact time in history. Sadly, too many people live their lives these days like their sole purpose in life would be to entertain themselves. But entertainment is not the purpose of living. It’s far deeper than that. First of all, God wants everyone to be saved by grace through faith in Christ. But that’s not all. Each of us is called to join God in the work he does. That’s the purpose of living for all God’s children.

He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. (Eph. 2:10, MSG)

The Purpose of Living

The purpose of living is not to have as much fun as possible or feel good all the time. Instead, we have a holy calling. We have been invited to join God in the work he does. Really. But don’t sweat. God has even prepared all the good works for us to do. So no stress. But, yes, your life is not an accident. You were sent into the world by God. Yes, you. And God has a plan for you.

When you truly grasp this, you start looking at your life a bit differently. Your life is holy, full of meaning. It’s a gift and it includes a holy calling. You can find out what it is by surrendering to God (daily) and asking him to show you what he has planned for you. (Just be aware you won’t be getting a fax from heaven.)

The purpose of living is to live your life with God and to go wherever he is leading you. When you do this every day, each day will prepare you for the future and your life will be full of meaning and purpose. Then, even without noticing it, you’re doing the good work God has gotten ready for you to do. So let’s not waste our lives solely on entertainment and mindless activities. Ask God what he wants you to do. You can be certain, boring times are over. May the adventures in God begin!

Let us pray

Gracious God,
Thank you for creating us
and calling us to join you in your work.
We surrender to you, Lord.
Use us for your glory.
Show us each and every day what you want us to do.
Enable us to do the good works you’ve prepared for us to do.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: What is the purpose of living for you? Are you letting God show you his plans for you?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you embrace all that God has for you and let the Holy Spirit work in/through you. Share the Light!
