How to Be in Awe of Jesus Today

How to be in awe of Jesus TodayDon’t you just love reading how people flocked to Jesus? How they were in awe of him. Jesus certainly wasn’t a crowd-pleaser but his message and actions were so life-giving and profound that people were astonished. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be one in the crowds hearing Jesus teaching, to be wowed by his life-changing message? Yes, it would. It’d be wonderful to be in awe of Jesus today. Is it still possible?

Great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the mute, and many others. They put them at his feet, and he cured them, so that the crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel. (Matthew 15:30-31, NRSV,*)

How to be in awe of Jesus today

Guess what? I have good news for you today: You can still meet Jesus this very day. Sure, Jesus died on the cross but he was three days later raised from the dead. And is still alive and well. We can meet him in prayer and in the Word of God. That way we can either discover or recover awe of Jesus. The power of his message has not changed. Just a few verses will do and I am once again in awe of Jesus.

The Word of God, Jesus, is still speaking. Especially if we ask the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds to hear what Jesus has for us each day. We can be in awe of Jesus today and every day. The Living Word of God teaches, encourages, comforts, and uplifts us on our faith journey. Faith works, folks, and Jesus is awesome.

The message of Jesus is still as valid as it was 2000 years ago. Grace is still as powerful as it was back then. We can still be in awe of Jesus today, we just need to spend some time in prayer and in God’s word. Jesus has promised to be with us until the end of the world. So let’s not run away but run into the arms of Jesus. That is the best place in the world.

Dear God,
Thank you for being so awesome in so many ways.
We are astonished by your gracious message.
Thank you for inviting us to spend time with you.
Speak to us through your word,
enable us to feel your presence and
experience the power of your message in our lives.
We want to be in awe of Jesus today and always.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen
