What Happens After Easter

What Happens After Easter

What happens after EasterI don’t use any Bible reading plans. My plan is simply to read a chapter or two or three both in the Old and New Testaments every day (and, no, I don’t manage to do it every day). Once I’ve read through, I start rereading them again, usually in a different translation. So I was utterly delighted by the divine orchestrating that on Easter Monday I was reading through the last chapters of the letter to the Hebrews. It so beautifully concluded the Message of Easter for me. And if you’re asking ‘What happens after Easter?’, this message is for you.

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (Hebrews 13:20-21, NIV)

What happens after Easter

Now that Easter Sunday is behind us, we are to live out resurrection in our lives. Relax, it is finished, as Jesus said on the cross. The work is done, now it is time to receive it and let it take root in our lives. The God of peace brought Jesus back from the dead and by doing so offers eternal life to us. We do not deserve it. Nonetheless, it is ours when we believe in Jesus. Eternal life, salvation, freedom from death, dying, and sin, are ours by grace. This is something so huge that we better not leave it on the shelf but put it to use. Our everyday lives will be transformed if we let Jesus show us what it means to be resurrected with him. Because that’s what faith is all about: to be alive with Christ! That’s what happens after Easter.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God. (Romans 7:4, NLT)

Resurrection Life

So let God equip you with everything good for doing his will. It is not about your abilities and resources but about God equipping you with God’s limitless resources and gifts and blessings. Yes, you are called to do God’s will and bear fruit. But not on your own. God will work in you and through you what is pleasing to him. So relax. Lean on God and let him shine through you. It is all God. But you get to enjoy resurrection life with Jesus. And the more you enjoy it, the more hope-filled you are. The more you abide in Jesus, the more fruit you will bear. Your happiness is intertwined with Jesus. It does not exist without Jesus. But what a glorious well-being resurrection life really is. That’s what happens after Easter.

Gracious God,
Your gifts to us are so overwhelmingly generous.
We are nothing yet you love us;
we surrender to you and you create beauty out of our lives.
Fill every nook and cranny of our souls with your grace.
Install resurrection joy and hope everlasting.
Show us what it means to live out resurrection every day.
Make us so alive that everybody around us can see you in us.
Equip us with everything good to do your will and bear lots of fruit.
Work in us whatever is pleasing to you.
We want to be so intertwined with you that we can’t tell us apart anymore.
Make us shine for you.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen

Q4U: What do you think? What happens after Easter? How do you live out resurrection in your life?

Be blessed my fellow pilgrim as you learn what resurrection life looks like in your life!
