A Call to Pray with Jesus

A Call to Pray with Jesus

A call to pray with JesusJesus asked his disciples to pray with him at Gethsemane, yet they slept. Just the same way, Jesus is asking us to pray with him too. How do we respond? Do we sleepwalk through our life? Or do we obey and pray with Jesus? Because we have a call to pray with Jesus. And that’s a high calling.

Then he [Jesus] said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” (Matthew 26:38, NIV)

A Calling to pray with Jesus

Jesus valued prayer and he prayed often. If we want to become like him, we need to pray – and hard. You see, prayer is a calling. It’s a powerful force. As Andrew Murray has said “We must begin to believe that God, in the mystery of prayer, has entrusted us with a force that can move the Heavenly world, and can bring its power down to earth.” We share a call to pray with Jesus. Indeed, we are called to bring God’s power down to earth.

Yet, we focus on other stuff. Unfortunately, prayer is not our priority like it should be. We have a call to pray with Jesus yet we don’t take it seriously. We pray little here and there and think we are doing fine. But we are called for so much more! We are called to bring God’s power down to earth. It’s a spiritual war out there yet we continue to sleepwalk through our life. Lord, have mercy.

A prayer challenge for you

It’s time to start treating prayer as a calling. I challenge you to take praying seriously. It’s time for us to be part of bringing God’s power down to earth, don’t you think? I want to commit myself to pray with Jesus regularly and I want to challenge you to do the same. This is not just our regular type of praying though, this kind of praying is on the top of our own prayer concerns. I want us to dedicate ourselves to pray like God’s soldiers, to bring God’s power down to earth. We need to report to our prayer duty and ask the Holy Spirit to show us what to pray for. God’s Spirit with guide us. When we pray with Jesus, we can experience God’s power right where we are. Nothing better than that.

Let us pray:

Dear God,
Thank you for giving us the gift of prayer
and calling us to work with you
Forgive our laziness and prayerlessness.
Wake us up, Lord!
Help us to believe in the power of prayer
and empower us to be prayer warriors for you.
We want to pray with Jesus.
Show us what we need to pray for;
show us how to bring your power down to earth.
We want to make a way for you, Lord.
May your kingdom come.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Do you sleepwalk through your life? Or are you alert for God’s prayer prompts?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you take the prayer challenge to bring God’s power down to earth!
