Celebrate! You Are a Child of God

Celebrate! You Are a Child of God

You are a child of GodDo you know you’re not supposed to be a slave of God? You know, so many people walk away from God because they think just that? They keep their distance because they think they’re free that way. But they are in bondage to fear and all kind of addictions (need of approval, love, success, fame, money, drugs, you name it) whether they know it or not. Just think how their lives would change if they knew that each and everyone is called to be a child of God. Just think how your life would change if you took seriously being a child of God.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. (Romans 8:14-16, NIV)

We Are No Longer Slaves but Children of God

We are sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. We are not slaves. We are free in Christ. Hallelujah. It’s time to embrace the fact that being a child of God is the best thing ever. It’s time to celebrate. Today and all of our days.

And here’s a song to do it. A couple of days ago I was preparing to teach on this subject as I tumbled upon this amazing song No Longer Slaves by Jonathan and Melissa Helser. Since then I’ve listened to it over and over again. I love the passion of the singers, the glowing faces of the audience, the powerful lyrics. It really is a privilege and a huge blessing to be a child of God. Pray these lyrics as you listen to them. Let God show you what it really means to be a child of God. What it really means to be no longer a slave. Bask in God’s grace, revel in his love!

Lyrics for Slaves No Longer

You unravel me, with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance, from my enemies
Till all my fears are gone

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mothers womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again, into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

I am surrounded
by the arms of the father
I am surrounded
by songs of deliverance

We’ve been deliberated
from our bondage
We are the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
All my fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
So I could stand and sing
I am child of God…

Let us pray:

Gracious God,
You are such an amazing father.
Thank you for adopting us into your family.
Thank you for loving us beyond measure.
There’s nothing better than being your child.
Thank you for deliberating us from our bondage.
Thank you for taking care of us.
We bask in your grace, revel in your love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

  1. Thank you, I needed to hear this today. Sometimes being a “seasoned servant” of God, I lean into being on mission more than into the heart of God and this unbalances me. When I get out of balance, an unholy alliance with “works” takes over my soul and I get weary, really weary. This scripture went into my heart deeply today and also into my personal journal to reflect on it and I feel I am wholly-holy aligned with God again. It is so easy to get out of balance and I believe that is why we need to cling to God and #ListenUP to what He is saying through others. Thanks for the encouragement and the gentle nudge to position me in pleasant places. God bless you MUCH. KimberlyMac http://thebridegroomscafe.com

    1. Praise the Lord! Wonderful to hear this post touched your heart. We really need to be reminded of being a child of God and rest in Him instead of pressing on on our own. Thanks so much for sharing, it meant a lot to me. May God continue to bless you and keep you.

  2. Mari-Anna, What a beautiful post, love the song as well. You !made such a great point – how our slavery to things like fear is untrue given our position and identity in Christ. Thanks for the beautiful reminders! Blessings today
