Don’t Be Deceived

Don’t Be Deceived

Don't be deceivedDo you think you are a good enough person without any need for a Savior? That’s what the world keeps telling you. Don’t buy it. The Bible tells us differently. First of all: you surely are precious. But, second of all, you also are a sinner just like the rest of us. You do need a Savior. Don’t be deceived.

I have a message from God in my heart
concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:
There is no fear of God before their eyes.
In their own eyes they flatter themselves
too much to detect or hate their sin.
The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful;
they fail to act wisely or do good.
Even on their beds they plot evil;
they commit themselves to a sinful course
and do not reject what is wrong.
(Psalm 36:1-4, NIV)

Or the same with the words of Billy Graham: “We see ourselves as self-sufficient, self-important, and self-sustaining. God sees us as dependent, self-centered, and self-deceived.”

There’s not a single person in this world who is sinless. We all need God’s love and mercy. Blessedly, God loves us and has done everything to give us a chance to be made right with him again. Because of Jesus we have a standing invitation into a close relationship with God. He does not want to punish us but to bless us.

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
    your justice like the great deep.
    You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
    People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house;
    you give them drink from your river of delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
    in your light we see light.
10 Continue your love to those who know you,
    your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 May the foot of the proud not come against me,
    nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 See how the evildoers lie fallen—
    thrown down, not able to rise!
    (Psalm 36:5-12, NIV)

Happiness does not come from being self-sufficient, self-important or self-sustaining. Blessings come from being united with God through Jesus. He is the fountain of life. He is the source of all the good things in life. He is everything we ever need.

Don’t be deceived by the world. Come to the fountain of life. Come to Jesus.

Gracious God,
Thank you for sending Jesus,
for providing us a way back to you.
Clothe us with your righteousness,
give us your power to yield evil around us.
Strengthen us for your service.
Give us grace upon grace,
life upon life,
love upon love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Does the world lure you? How have you been deceived? What helped you to see the truth?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you take Jesus up on the invitation to be in a close relationship with him.

  1. Yes, I think it’s so easy with the humanistic thinking of much of the world to assume that we can have true happiness apart from Jesus. But hobbies, vacation, work, and family cannot fulfill like Him. Thank-you for sharing.
