Becoming Alive

Becoming Alive

Becoming AliveAre you in the process of becoming alive? Or do you insist staying the way you’ve always been? This C. S. Lewis quote captured my attention and refueled my Biblical imagination today. How about you?

Imagine turning a tin soldier into a real little man. It would involve turning the tin into flesh. And suppose the tin soldier did not like it. He is not interested in flesh; all he sees is that the tin is being spoiled. He thinks you are killing him. He will do everything he can do to prevent you. He will not be made into a man if he can help it. The real Son of God is at your side. He is beginning to turn you into the same kind of thing as Himself; He is beginning, so to speak, to ‘inject’ His kind of life and thought, his Zoe, (spiritual life) into you; beginning to turn the tin soldier into a live man. The part of you that does not like it is the part that is still tin.~C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis once again uses an analogy that brings life to the subject matter. We do think we are the real deal as tin soldiers but how wrong we are! We think we know best even though we clearly don’t. We think God wants bad things to us when the opposite is true. We’d rather keep our stone hearts as long as we are like everyone else.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26, NIV)

We are meant to be very much alive and well. Somehow we try to do anything and everything to prevent becoming alive and real. Why would we do that? Becoming alive does not even require work on our part. Jesus already did everything on our behalf. It is finished. All we need to do is to open our hearts and minds to receive the gift of grace and all the good things God wants to give us.

I will ask God to get rid of any tin I still have in me. Will you join me?

Gracious God,
Forgive me for resisting you in any way.
Please, do change me.
Make me real.
Make me the way you want me.
Be my everything.
And use me anyway you want.
I want to be fully yours.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Are you becoming alive? Or do you resist God’s work in you? What does help you to “let go and let God”?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you let God change you and make you real.
