Friends with Jesus

Friends with Jesus

Friends with Jesus
Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Finland as Friends’ Day. In some ways I think it captures the heart of Valentine’s Day even better when it does not exclude all but romantic love. And having friends is one of the best things in life, don’t you think? So worth of celebrating. But just think what it would be like to be friends with Jesus? And the best news is that’s exactly what Jesus wants to be with us.

You are My friends if you keep on doing the things which I command you to do. I do not call you servants (slaves) any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing (working out). But I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.] (John 15:14-15, AMP,*)

Every joy that human friendship brings is multiplied in friendship with Jesus. No human can be as loving, faithful, loyal as Jesus. Being friends with Jesus is the best thing ever. Jesus will never dumb you for your shortcomings. But he will lead you into a radical life-change that will bring the best out of you.

Jesus is a friend who will help you to find yourself and your place in the world. He is endlessly interested in hearing from you. He will never turn you away. He will always bless you according to your needs. There’s no other friend like Jesus.

Being friends with Jesus also enables us to be friends to others. When our needs are met by Jesus, we are not too needy in our other relationships. Because no human being can meet all of our needs. Only Jesus can fill the hole inside of us. Only Jesus can be everything to us.

Being friends with Jesus is the best thing that can ever happen to us. Jesus is honest, trustworthy and giving. He brings joy into our lives. He is always there for us. And his love for us has no limits. No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends. (John 15:13, AMP,*)

Gracious God,
Thank you for giving your only Son for us.
Thank you for calling us to be your friends.
Thank you also for all of our friends.
Enable us to be more Christ-like for them.
Whenever we are in need of new friends,
please, send them into our lives.
Empower us to be friends like Jesus.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: What’s the best part of being friends with Jesus?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you enjoy being friends with Jesus!

* [As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses to Biblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.]

  1. I am so excited to visit you from Bonnie’s blog. Little did I know that someone from Finland would be the one before my link. I love that we can connect from all parts of the world!

You made such good points in your post. I too am friends with Jesus. He is my Savior and how thankful I am to know Him. His love does enable me to love others; even the unloving.

Bless you and thank you for this beautiful post!
