Practicing Surrender in Slippers

Practicing Surrender in Slippers

The secret of starting your day right is not about getting the right hot drink just as you prefer it. The secret of starting your day right is in practicing surrender in slippers. What? The most important act in the morning is to surrender your whole life to God. If we try to carry all the burdens on our own shoulders, the day will not get the right start and will not get any better either. But if we lay out the pieces of our life as a living sacrifice to God, we can be sure that God will make great things out of them. That’s why I practice surrender in slippers. Never leave home without having surrendered your life to Jesus!

Listen, God! Please, pay attention! Can you make sense of these ramblings, my groans and cries? King-God, I need your help.
Every morning
you’ll hear me at it again.
Every morning
I lay out the pieces of my life
on your altar
and watch for fire to descend.

(Psalm 5: 1-3, MSG)

Ignatius has said “Few souls understand what God would accomplish in them if they were to abandon themselves unreservedly to Him and if they were to allow His grace to mould them accordingly”. If we keep the control of our lives God can’t do much through our lives. That’s why I practice “surrender in slippers”. When I take my whole life – every single aspect of it – and surrender it to Jesus,  I can be sure that God is in action. I need to do this daily to remind myself not to take the control back. I admit it is not always easy. But I’ve learned it is the only way to live fully.

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. (Romans 12:1, MSG)

Sacrifice is not something we do for God. It’s just laying out the pieces of our lives – just as imperfect as they are- for God to do something with them. We fool ourselves if we think that we could solve the problems and make something beautiful out of the chaos of our lives on our own. No, we need God. The beauty of surrendering daily is that our life becomes an adventure. Make sure you never leave home without having surrendered your whole life to Jesus. Then stay open for God’s guidance and act upon faith. Be bold, be strong! God is with you!

Gracious God,
We offer our lives to you as a living sacrifice.
Take every part of our lives.
Remove what needs to be removed.
Cultivate what needs to be cultivated.
Change what needs to be changed.
Guide us clearly!
May they will be done!
Thank you for making something beautiful
out of the chaos of our lives!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Do you practice surrendering daily? Does it work?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you develop a daily habit of surrendering your whole life to Jesus!

  1. What a sweet reminder, Mari-Anna, that our everyday lives are precious to Him.  Each person who we come across in our ordinary lives has the opportunity to be touched by the Creator through us just being there.  We have the same opportunity from them!  Ordinary people serving an extraordinary God!
    Blessings,
