From an Admirer of Jesus to a Follower of Christ
It’s time! It’s time to move from an admirer of Jesus to a follower of Christ. Too often we believe God but we don’t let our faith change our actions. We are spectators in God’s story but we don’t enter in the story. We are fans of Jesus, we ooh and aah the great things God performs but we don’t become active participants in God’s work. Where are you in this picture? Are you a spectator? Or are you a disciple of Christ following him where he is leading you?
You are asking what to do if you are a mere admirer of Jesus? How to become a full-fledged follower of Christ? This is essential if we want to grow in faith and embrace all the promises of God Almighty. There is no tricks involved. We just need to surrender our lives to Jesus and submit everything in us to the service of God. We need to believe and live out the faith we’ve received. If we need more faith we just need to ask. If we need more courage we just need to ask. If we need more strength we just need to ask. But we need to put our faith in practice.
[Jesus:] “What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.” (Acts 1:8, MSG)
We need to let God to live in us, to act through us. We need to let the Holy Spirit change us, prompt us to do to things, empower us to be bold for Christ. Because the most amazing thing has happened to us: Jesus has set us free! God loves everyone and wants to set everyone free! We need to be witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We need to tell the Good News of Jesus Christ to every soul on this earth! We have a mighty job to do! We need to start acting like it!
Enough of being admirers of Jesus. Now on to serious business: being active followers of Christ! Sure, it is scary. Sure, it is wild. Sure, it is bold. But so is our God! The sky is the limit when God is in action through us. Dream big. Pray hard. And go! God is with you!
We lay our lives to you.
We surrender and submit ourselves to you.
Because you have the words of the eternal life.
Because you are holy and true.
We want to be your disciples.
We want to be your followers.
Take away our fears and doubts of our abilities.
Fill us with your Holy Spirit.
Prepare us to live boldly out our faith.
Work in us, through us, around us.
May your will happen in our lives.
In Jesus’ name,
Q4U: Where are you in the spectrum of an admirer of Jesus and a full-fledged follower of Christ?
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you venture out to the world to serve the Lord!
