What are your biggest fears? We might fear losing our home, losing our job or losing people that we love. But we are not to build our lives around our houses, jobs nor people! We are to build our lives around Jesus Christ our Lord. Then we will never be sorry. When Jesus Christ is our cornerstone of our lives we are never homeless, we are never jobless, we are never alone even if in “real” life we were. We find our identity, meaning and security in Jesus Christ alone.

This is something that God keeps on teaching me again and again. More than a decade ago, it was about having a home. I learned that I do not need to have a physical home to be at home. Last spring it was about giving up a tenured job. I learned that I do not need a job title to prove my worth to other people or to make sure I will have a pay check in 10 years. God is leading me to do new kind of ministry and I am following with an eager heart and mind.

So, I am slowly learning to truly live in grace. Trusting God to take care of all my needs and to guide me through life. How abundant is his care! How secure is his hand! How faithful is his guidance! I truly celebrate the cornerstone of my life, Jesus Christ. Thanks to him my life is full of blessings. Not according to the worldly standards but according to the heavenly standards. Because Jesus is the source of life!

Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out; God set it in the place of honor. Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you’ll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to God. The Scriptures provide precedent:

Look! I’m setting a stone in Zion,
a cornerstone in the place of honor.
Whoever trusts in this stone as a foundation
will never have cause to regret it.
To you who trust him, he’s a Stone to be proud of, but to those who refuse to trust him,

The stone the workmen threw out
now the chief foundation stone.
For the untrusting it’s …
a stone to trip over,
a boulder blocking the way.
They trip and fall because they refuse to obey, just as predicted.
(1 Peter 2:4-8, MSG)

Gracious God,
Come and be our source of life!
Come and be our cornerstone!
Use us as building stones in your work!
We offer our lives to you!
Thy will be done!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: What has God been teaching you lately?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you journey on your faith adventure! God’s care is sure and abundant!
