Who Am I?

Who Am I?

It’s Melodic Monday and today’s song is Who Am I? by Casting Crowns. The song was written by Mark Hall. This song reminds me of God’s sovereignty: God is holy, God is almighty! Yet, he loves us! He wants to know us intimately, he wants to have a personal relationship with us! Not because what we are or what we have done but because of God! When we respond with ‘yes’ to God’s invitation we’ll be awestruck how much God really loves us.

Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. (Eph. 2:7-10, MSG)

We truly are God’s children meant to be living in God’s grace. We are special in God’s eyes but it’s not about us, it’s all about God! Casting Crowns’ song captures this so well. God of the Universe loves each and everyone of us! We can return our love to God by surrendering into his service. What does that mean to each of us is ours to find out. God adores to answer that kind of questions!

Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,

Would care to know my name,

Would care to feel my hurt.

Who am I?

That the bright and morning star,

Would choose to light the way,

For my ever wandering heart.

Bridge:
Not because of who I am,

But because of what you’ve done.

Not because of what I’ve done,

But because of who you are.

Chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading,

Here today and gone tomorrow,

A wave tossed in the ocean,

A vapor in the wind.

Still you hear me when I’m calling,

Lord, you catch me when I’m falling,

And you’ve told me who I am.

I am yours.

I am yours.

Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin

Would look on me with love

And watch me rise again.

Who am I?

That the voice that calmed the sea,

Would call out through the rain,

And calm the storm in me.

Not because of who I am,
But because of what you’ve done.

Not because of what I’ve done,

But because of who you are.

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,

A wave tossed in the ocean,

A vapor in the wind.

Still you hear me when I’m calling,

Lord, you catch me when I’m falling,

And you’ve told me who I am.

I am yours.

Gracious God,
Thank you for loving us
with such extravagant love!
You are truly amazing!
We want to be yours.
We yearn to always live in your grace.
Help us to feel your presence
in the midst of everyday business.
Bless us to bless others.
Show us how to best serve you!
We adore you!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
