Speed of Light
It’s Melodic Monday! Today’s song is “Speed of Light” by Bruce Carroll (Words & Music by Bruce Carroll & Chuck Leonard, produced by Reed Arvin, appears on Speed of Light CD).
This song is one of my favorites:
I’m just a man with a basic education
I don’t mean to question anyone’s reputation
But there is only one author of creation
So when I add up Mr. Einstein’s calculation
The theory of relativity
Says E=MC2 believe the equation’s missing one thing
And that’s the power of prayer…’cause
At the speed of light
Jesus is there
At the speed of light
He can be anywhere
In the blink of an eye
n the dark of despair
Across space and time, hope arrives
At the speed of time
I’ve lived a life of so many contradictions
And I’ve fallen short
With a heart of good intention
I can’t count the scars from the wounds of
My afflictions
Of the times that I’ve cried out
For His intervention
But there really is no mystery
If we take Him at His word
And his Spirit reassures us all
Our prayers are being heard
I find it extremely interesting and intriguing that according to the relativity theory light travels from the sun to the earth in about 8 minutes (measured by human beings). But from the light’s point of view there is no time used for the travel/ light is all the time there, which means the speed of light is 0 seconds from the sun to the world from lights’ perspective. Now, read the following passage:
This, in essence, is the message we heard from Christ and are passing on to you: God is light, pure light; there’s not a trace of darkness in him. (1 John 1:5, MSG)
God is light! From God’s point of view there is no time used for travel from God to human beings, the Light is all the time there. From the human point of view we might think there is some sort of delay (even if it is just 8 minutess) in receiving Light. But that’s just a question of our incapability to reason at the level of the Light! Mind-boggling!
So, if we, as Bruce Carroll suggests in the song, add the power of the prayer to the relativity theory we are closer to the God-perspective on things. God is always there with us. God is always there whether we can feel his presence or not. We are called to take God at his word and trust that he really is with us 24/7. Thanks be to God!
Gracious God,
Your world is so wonderful!
You have build it so amazingly!
We praise you!
Guide us to take you at your word.
Help us to trust you that you really are with us 24/7.
Help us to feel your presence and
believe even when we don’t sense your presence.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Q4U: How does this make you feel?
Walk in faith! Walk in prayer! Walk in the Light!
