At the beginning of a new year, we’re all looking for direction. What should I do with my life? What paths should I take this year? Finding the right direction is especially hard if we feel we are living in a perpetual fog. What to do then? How to find direction when you’re lost? Let’s find out.
As Christians, we know who is our guide: Jesus. Hence we need to turn to him for guidance. Believingly. We need to believe God loves us and is interested in us and our lives. Otherwise, we don’t take his advice seriously.
For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11, AMP,*)
God wants good things for you, even if your life is a mess right now. He has a great plan for your life. So it’s worth it to seek his guidance.
Life or finding direction or following it is not meant to happen on our own power. We’ve taught to rely on ourselves but the Bible tells us to rely on God, not ourselves.
O Lord, I know that the path of [life of] a man is not in himself;
It is not within [the limited ability of] man [even one at his best] to choose and direct his steps [in life]. (Jeremiah 10:23, AMP,*)
You’re dependent on God whether you like it or not. Accept it. Embrace it. Then learn to live with God’s power. It’s the most blessed thing.
And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21, NRSV;*)
Start your day by surrendering to God. Ask for direction and God will show you the way to go. You don’t need to know how things will eventually work out, you just need to know the one who is leading you.
The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
(Ps. 37:23-24, NIV,*)
So whenever you’re looking for direction, seek God. And he will show you the way. It’s simple yet we fail in doing so. Thankfully God is happy to give us as many second chances as we need.
So our responsibility is to just seek God and delight in him. He is more than happy to guide us. So even you feel you’re in a perpetual fog and do not know where you’re supposed to go, you’re fine as long as you keep on seeking Jesus. So seek Jesus and take a small step after another. And you find a future with hope, faith, and joy.
We love you and we praise you.
Thank you for never leaving us.
We need you to guide us.
Show us the way to go.
Fill us with your strength, wisdom, and hope.
We trust you and we keep taking steps as you direct us.
Be praised forever, Lord.
Thank you for providing us a future with hope, faith, and joy.
In Jesus’ name,
Q4U: How do you find direction?
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you seek God and follow him wherever he leads you!
